Our first bride blog is here! New for 2021, we are blogging about real life brides to give other brides some inspiration for their own plans. Our first couple are a lockdown engagement and planning their wedding for 2021!
Married Name: Mr and Mrs Mackie
Engaged Date: 20th June 2020
Wedding date: 22nd May 2021
After having their little baby boy in February 2020, the future Mr and Mrs Mackie got engaged at their home in June. As their whole planning experience has been during COVID, they are able to give some brilliant advice to newly engaged couples.
They have chosen the beautiful Eden Barn as their venue located in Cumbria. This venue offers onsite accommodation as well as the option to make it completely private for your wedding. The venue does require you to use their catering partner Southcott Events but given the limited suppliers available in 2021, this may be another positive element to selecting Eden Barn.
Peter Hugo has been chosen as their wedding photographer who is based in the North but covers the whole of the UK. As advertised as an ‘Alternative Wedding Photographer’, Peter is brilliant at capturing those moments in the background and keeps his style very natural. Other suppliers include Sara Barrow for the flowers and Dancing in the Dark as the DJ.
Unfortunately, the boutique where Elizabeth purchased her wedding dress is now out of business. This has resulted in finding an alternative supplier to make alterations as well as finding an alternative place to store the dress until the big day. COVID has also impacted their planning as they haven’t been able to meet any of the chosen suppliers in person and have only been able to visit the venue once when making the booking. Similarly to other couples, the constant worry about 2021 weddings is in their minds but we’ve got all our fingers crossed the vaccine will be rolled out and we will start seeing some normality from May onwards.
Another impact they have experienced is being unable to secure wedding insurance. Many couples don’t ever insure their big day but given the devastation COVID has caused, more and more couples are keen to insure their wedding where they can. Unfortunately, many companies are refusing to insure weddings at the moment and others are making small print very difficult to understand and are simply not paying out when they need to. If you are looking to insure your wedding and have found a company, please ensure you read the details carefully and you are covered for what you need. Every wedding is different so make sure you get a policy that matches your needs.
While COVID is making some elements of planning harder, there are still some beautiful moments during wedding planning to reflect on. Elizabeth’s favourite part so far has been trying on wedding dresses with her maid of honour before choosing the one! This is part of every girls dream and we are so happy Elizabeth still got to enjoy this element of wedding planning.
Another positive note is their honeymoon is booked! Travelling just 1 month after their big day, they are celebrating their marriage by visiting friends in America. Their son will also be travelling with them and the beauty of travelling to see friends is they can enjoy a well deserved family holiday while also having some alone time to celebrate together.
While everyone is hopefully their wedding will go ahead as planned as much as possible, they are both realistic that things may not be as they hoped. One top tip Elizabeth passes to newly engaged brides is to not set your heart on a big wedding right now. Take a minute to decide what wedding you would like and plan accordingly. If you just want to get married, go for it! If you want a big wedding with all your friends and family, plan for a couple of years down the line.
We wish the future Mackie’s all the best with their plans and I hope they have the most incredible day when it arrives. We can’t wait to see the photos!
